Rhodes House on West Perth’s golden mile established itself as the area’s leading building for innovation and excellence in energy efficiency and environmental standards.
It was logical therefore for this major Lithium Mining House to cement a lease over two levels of the building. Clients include major EV companies, and it was important that a responsible holistic image was presented to global companies visiting Western Australia for the first time.
PAPER were commissioned to articulate the company’s vision into a physical workplace.
Central to the organisations values was the notion of “family and a strong sense of team”, a big differentiator from competitors in the market.
PAPER began with the concept of family culture centred on the kitchen, a cue drawn from briefing workshops. The building’s natural footprint with a side core to the east and full height 3 metre glazing on north and south facades dictated a clear planning direction.
Public spaces including Boardroom, Multipurpose room, Reception subsequently blur boundaries with a Staff Kitchen and Breakout space, all bathed in northern light.
This front of house public realm becomes a fully activated community hub of activities the moment a visitor steps out of the lift. A clear sense of orientation is evident connecting light and views with northern and southern urban aspects. PAPER's interior architecture draws the eye through this realm with a vaulted ceiling in a warm light timber veneer, modulating its acoustic properties according to function. Notions of Biophilia begin here and is carried into the workspace with extensive plantings.
Seamlessly transitioning into the workplace is the same sense of orientation, natural light from the 3 metre high ceilings to North, South and West permeates workspace. Low storage with lush plantings draws the eye through to tree canopies on the exterior, all enhancing a healthful workplace.
On many levels this is a workspace that is good for the soul. Sensory aspects are uplifting, from great natural light and high indoor air quality from the underfloor displacement air conditioning through to enhanced social and aspirational opportunities. Every work point is furnished with a Unifor Satellite Sit to Stand workstation. Wellness becomes imbued in the space.
Throughout the fitout, a diversity of furniture settings from leading manufacturers, Moroso, Wilkhahn, Unifor, Molteni, Mattiazzi and Thonet, along with a strong West Australian art programme reflect the standing of the organisation in the Australian Lithium industry.
